Rest is Not Laziness

It’s true resting is not lazy, but lazy is lazy.

We need to rest. We need to take time to just sit, think, relax, sleep, and veg out so our mind, heart, and body can de-stress.

So what’s the difference between lazy and rest?

When you look up the word lazy it’s defined as – unable to work or not willing to use energy.

I don’t like that definition, so I am changing it.
We can do that, right? Lol

I think true laziness is not doing something you DON’T FEEL LIKE DOING when you know YOU SHOULD DO IT.

As adults, we have a lot of decisions to make. Especially as wives, mamas, and doers of all the things.

It’s almost too easy for us to decide, “I’m not going to because I don’t FEEL like it, today”…. am I right or am I right?

And sure, when it comes to laundry, dishes, mowing the yard, taking out the trash, picking up the poop in the back yard or scraping the toothpaste off of the kid’s mirror…there are times THAT STUFF can and NEEDS to wait.

That is not lazy, but let’s have some real talk here for a minute.

Lean in close.

How often do you NOT do what you know YOU SHOULD DO because you just don’t “feel” like it?

And NOT doing some of these things (I’m going to be real honest with you for a minute) they are keeping you stuck. They are keeping you sick. They are keeping you procrastinating and not living in the life God has called you to live.

You are important.

Your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health is important..

Your dreams and your purpose in this world is important.
And, it’s your responsibility.

So, of course it’s not a big deal to not get the mound of laundry folded or socks sorted TODAY. But there are some tasks we should not be putting off.

And here’s the thing. Having the THOUGHT that you don’t feel like doing something is completely normal.

That doesn’t mean you are lazy, there is something wrong with you, or you have a problem…. It just means you are a HUMAN.

But if you are not producing results that you want in your life because you follow through with “I don’t feel like it so I’m not gonna do it”, that my friend is laziness.

And if you are ready to make a change so you can start being more productive and feel better, here are some things you can do:

1. Start thinking about the time you are spending on Netflix binge watching your fave, scrolling Facebook, or eating cocoa puffs while reading romance novels.

Hey, I’m not saying those things are bad and let me make this clear… BY DOING THESE THINGS YOU ARE NOT BEING LAZY.

I’m right there with you watching OUTERBANKS, eating my Fruity Pebbles, and checking out my people on Facebook, but we have to set some priorities to set ourselves up to be more successful.

So, appropriately…let’s move on to #2

2. Set some priorities to set yourself up for success

By not setting priorities for yourself and not following through with what you know you need to do, that is lazy and making you feel worthless.

So, STOP IT!

It doesn’t matter how “busy” you are…busy does not equal productivity. And, being “busy” is not a good excuse for not doing what you need to do to be an all around healthy human.

Results are produced when you set priorities for what needs to get done and GET IT DONE!

3. Ask yourself this question: What 3 things are most important for you to get done today that are significant?

For example, if I was to sit down tonight and say, “Self, what is significant for you and going to make you feel more productive, help you to be healthier as a human, and move forward in my purpose?”

This is what I would write:

  • Spend time with my Jesus- read and pray
  • Move my body- workout or take a walk
  • Check on my clients and schedule time to write more emails 🙂 Commit and do it even if you don’t FEEL like it!

This is where the rubber meets the road, sis.
The hard builds the muscle.
Commit to doing it even if you don’t feel like it.
Yep, It’s that simple.
